Brigid Simmonds, the top dog of the UK’s Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), will be leaving her position next spring. She’s been in charge since the BGC’s inception in 2019, uniting various sectors of the gambling industry. Prior to that, she spent ten years at the helm of the British Beer and Pub Association – talk about industry expertise!
Currently, the BGC is on the lookout for its next leader. They’ve already appointed Michael Dugher, their present CEO, to take over in the interim starting April 21, 2024. Dugher commended Simmonds highly, stating she excelled at establishing the BGC and elevating the standards for responsible gambling. He also emphasized her talent for fostering collaboration and garnering widespread respect, a significant accomplishment in such a field. The search for a permanent successor is underway, with a recruitment agency handling the process.
Thrilled to usher in a new Chief Executive this spring! As the head honcho, I’m keen to collaborate with them, driving forward vital sector transformations. The Betting and Gaming Council has consistently championed its workforce and participants, and that commitment remains unwavering. We’ll persist in elevating benchmarks and ensuring everyone enjoys a secure and pleasurable experience.
It’s been a privilege to witness the BGC’s expansion since 2019 and stand for countless devoted individuals within the regulated wagering sector. A massive thanks to all who have contributed to this endeavor – the Executive Board, our affiliates, charitable organizations, collaborators, and naturally, the 110,000 staff we represent. Our collective achievements are substantial, from enhancing standards universally to collaborating closely with authorities on equitable and impactful reforms detailed in the latest Gambling Act assessment. I’m immensely pleased with all we’ve attained.”
